Glamping. Luxury camping in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. That’s what St Jerome’s Hotel is all about.
We were really excited for this type of accommodation. I mean c’mon, can it get any cooler than sleeping in a proper bed, with premium linen, under the stars (well a canvas bell tent) on the rooftop of Melbourne Central Shopping Centre?
The weather gods were on our side thankfully, which I’ll be honest if they weren’t, would have completely ruined our experience. Rain or a cold night would certainly affect your time on the rooftop as it would be unenjoyable to sit and enjoy the cocktails and cupcakes at the General Store (communal area and outdoor bar) or breakfast on your outdoor patio area. But then again you could opt for your luxury robe and cuddle up in your queen bed and watch movies on the iPad provided or hit the pins at Strike Bowling with your complimentary voucher.
For us, we whittled away the time playing Jenga and drinking the General Store and our complimentary esky dry. Once night fell we ventured beyond the rooftop to get some dinner and more drinks. Beware, that dinner is not included nor available at St Jerome's. You do receive vouchers for complimentary snacks but if you're anything like us you'll need more!
Our breakfast box and coffee's were delivered straight to our tent at our requested time of 9am. It was perfect timing to sit out on our outdoor patio as our tent was heating up from the sun despite the air conditioning.
The portable bathrooms impressed me. They were better than many bathrooms I have had to use in rentals I've lived in!
Check out made me realise that the 21 tents were in fact full but at no point did we feel the rooftop was busy. Departing guests included young couples, a hens group and older couples. St Jerome's Hotel is accommodation that understandably appeals to the masses.
This was a memorable urban experience which we were lucky to receive as a gift from incredible friends. One night is all you need to tick this off your list.
